"Let us never forget the forefathers in the changes we plan and conceive, for they gave us in trust a great treasure, it is greater than we may believe."

- Ivar Aasen, Norwegian linguist, language founder and literary figure

Norskamerikanere / Norwegian Americans

Migration from Norway to what is now the United States of America began in 1825, and many Norwegians emigrated from the traditional region of Hallingdal, here in south-central Norway. There are more than 4.5 million Norwegian Americans in the United States, and the two countries have a long tradition of positive relations.

Whether your ancestral roots are in this region or in another part of the country, or if you're simply interested in exploring Norway, we invite you to visit Hakkesetstølen in Hallingdal.
